Today, I share with you the contents of my medicine cabinet.
As a young child I had one ear ache after another – and like so many moms in the 50s – mine frequently took me to the doctor where I was prescribed antibiotic after antibiotic. If one didn’t work, they tried another.
My senior year of nursing school, age 21, I was hospitalized with acute glomerulo-nephritis from strep and which could not be halted with antibiotics. I simply broke out in hives, got far sicker, and ultimately lost much of my kidney function (over 50% both R and L sides) until God totally and completely healed me. The last IVPs amazed us all, especially the doctors.
We now know I had developed antibiotic resistance; this occurs when bacteria in your body change so that antibiotics don’t work from overuse. Today, antibiotics aren’t an option for me under any but the most dire of circumstances. True story.
As a Mom, I used conventional medications only as a last resort. My goal was to find safe alternatives to the usual antibiotics, Tylenol, Benadryl and over-the-counter products containing unpronounceable ingredients. I was a bit obsessed for a few years trying to keep us out of the doctor’s office with all of the negatives that go with the medical system.
Since several readers have asked me to share what I keep in my medicine cabinet, I have been thinking how to save you time, money, and make your way more sure and enjoyable.
What I would like to show is that there are many, many safe and logical natural alternatives that do a fabulous job of helping our body to heal itself – all with no side effects. I believe we save money and potentially untold grief by staying out of the health care system as we know it today.
